A Loving Family in Christ
Brother Ivan Cheng (Hong Kong Church)

On 21st May, the Hong Kong Church Board organized an event -“A Loving Family” for the Young Couples Fellowship. Participants were divided into groups to share their feelings and thoughts on marriage. In my group, there was a brother whose experience of starting a family was very similar to mine: - both of us found our partners in the Lord, both experienced the anxieties and joys of having twins, and both faced the drastic changes that came with becoming first-time fathers. While we were preparing, we felt God had entrusted us with this great responsibility and He helped us to grow quickly. As we believe that marriage is a blessing from God, even in times of difficulties we know there is hope. A brother summarized, the experience of forming a family is like the process of refining gold, the essence of our marriage is rooted to our faith.

As new parents, we may often find it challenging to balance the needs of child-rearing and spiritual nourishment. The chance of listening to the sermons quietly at church may become a rare luxury. In view of this, a group of young brothers and sisters at Hong Kong church designed a series of activities – providing childcare in classrooms, allowing us to temporarily set aside our worries and fully engage in this fellowship. Followed by an afternoon outing with the whole family that brought fun and laughter. Drawing closer to the Lord, walking together as couples, encouraging one another as fellow believers, and enjoying time with our children — these four wishes were perfectly fulfilled in one day.

A family is the fundamental unit of the church. Harmonious families serve as the foundation of a thriving church. Newly married couples and first-time parents are often at life's crossroads because of the changes in roles and responsibilities. They are striving hard to nurture new cells within the church and to sow seeds for the future of the heavenly kingdom. May we continue to show love for their needs, and may the grace of God be with them always.

Autumn Spiritual Convocation at Western Church
Sister Lam (Western Church)

Hallelujah, peace to you all. Thank God, through His grace and guidance, Western Church was able to hold the Spiritual Convocation from 25 - 26th September smoothly. The Spiritual Convocation is a major divine work opportunity that the church undertakes annually in the hope that all brethren and truth-seeking friends can enjoy together a banquet in the Lord. In a world ravaged by the pandemic, thanks to God’s protection and the rapid response of the government and the public, the situation in Hong Kong stablised. Everyone gathered enthusiastically in the chapel to listen to the Words of God while abiding by the pandemic regulations.

The theme for this Spiritual Convocation was “Seeking the Lost Sheep”. After studying the bible, we gained a deeper understanding of God’s justice and loving mercy. We understood the need to support each other to walk the heavenly path as any of us could become a lost sheep. Apart from listening to sermons, the church organized prayer sessions to pray for His blessing and spiritual power, so that the gospel might live in our hearts vibrantly like a light shining overhead. Although the pandemic situation continues to be severe all over the world, may God strengthen our faiths and grant us a peace of mind. No matter how rough the waves are, we can all lie peacefully in God’s love, like sheep resting in the bosom of the shepherd.

Hallelujah, Amen.

Marriage Seminar
Brother Chi Cheung Wong (HKCB Marriage Counsellor )

On the 16th of January 2022 (Sunday), Hong Kong Coordination Board held a marriage seminar. The seminar was broadcasted live online and the main speaker was Deacon Ma. The seminar was divided into two parts; the first part was about ‘Choosing A Spouse Before Marriage’ which was aimed at unmarried youths and their parents; the second part focused on ‘Matchmaking’ which was aimed at training matchmaker representatives from each area.

Deacon Ma shared with everyone the precautions in the work of matchmaking, case studies, held a Q&A session etc. Matchmaking representatives from each area shared their current difficulties in conducting introductions, especially since all parts of the world are dealing with the pandemic. Believers around the world have lost the opportunity to interact face-to-face. Even in Hong Kong, the opportunities to get to know each other and mutual exchanges between local churches had greatly reduced due to the restrictions on church gatherings.

Matchmaking representatives from each area hoped to continue promoting the matchmaking work in Hong Kong by strengthening ties between churches. May God continue to guide the works of helping our youths find their other halves in Hong Kong, so that unmarried brethren can marry in the Lord and establish a fruitful Christian-like family.

Music Camp 2021
SMG (HKCB)

Thank God! The Music Camp which was delayed for a year finally took place on 21st & 28th of November 2021 at Kowloon Church with a total of 68 members joining the event.

The pandemic has undoubtedly made us cherish this opportunity of singing and gathering together at church to praise the Lord. Even though we were singing with masks and it was not comfortable, but it didn’t affect our attitude to serve and worship the Lord. Every choir member demonstrated a positive learning attitude whether during small group practices or practicing with the whole choir. The conductor and the teachers also taught and guided members with great patience. Apart from singing, the two preachers also shared their teachings on the purpose and attitude of singing. Undeniably, God looks at our motives and attitudes to serve rather than our singing quality and techniques.

Thank God, though it was short we experienced the joy of singing, spiritual edification and mental growth during these two days. During the closing ceremony we offered our praises to the Lord with one heart and one mind. May all choir members infuse the enthusiasm and aspiration gained during this Music Camp in our daily singing; May we continue to constantly bear fruit in our singing. All glory be to the Lord, Amen.

Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:19)
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. (Hebrews 13:15)

My First Year of Junior Youth School Student Spiritual Convocation
Sister Yeung Lok Hei (Hong Kong Church)

This was my first time participating in the Junior Youth School Student Spiritual Convocation. At first, I was extremely nervous as I thought the course would be difficult and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to make friends. After the first night, I realized I had nothing to worry about. The counselors were so kind to us and the lessons were fun and interesting. One of the most memorable lessons was “The Myth of Gender”, which was about homosexuality and original sin.

The difference between Spiritual Convocation and Bible Camp was, we had personal Bible reading time where we read I Peter chapter 1 and answered the questions in our workbook. I loved this session because for the Bible Camp the preacher would read and explain the Bible to us, but during the Spiritual Convocation we had to read it ourselves and come to our own understanding of the Bible. The testimony session was also different. It was very strict and there was a dress code which included proper shoes. The counselors had to lend their shoes to people who didn’t have the appropriate footwear.

And finally, the outdoor activity I was looking forward to - “check point”. It was so hot that day, you could fry an egg on the pavement! But the extreme weather only made us even more determined and our group won in the end!

Winter Spiritual Convocation
Brother Lam Ho Wai (Tsuen Wan Church)

New chapel, new environment, new sentiments! Thank the Lord, the long-awaited Tsuen Wan convocation finally took place and was a success! Recounting all the previous convocations, this time was completely different.

For this occasion, I was able to take part in serving as the role of a brother and I presented hymns for this Spiritual convocation. In the midst of it, I gained so much love and was deeply touched! Furthermore, I was overjoyed to be given the opportunity to serve God and to experience His depths of love on me!

It was ten years ago that I missed the opportunity to become a brother. I am so thankful that God never left me or gave up on me. He led me, a little lamb, back to church, back into the Lord’s embrace, where I have the chance to sing praises to You, to receive the blessings of God and where my faith can be greatly edified! This convocation was truly special for me.

Hong Kong and Kowloon Youth Testimony Service
Brother Zhang Ze Ming (Kowloon Church)

Thank the Lord, three brethren shared their testimonies during the Hong Kong and Kowloon Youth Testimony Service held in Hong Kong Church on 26th May 2018. The three brethren consisted of two brothers and one sister.

The testimonies shared by the three brethren were about their marriages. After listening to their testimonies, two things left a deep impression on me.

The first thing was, if we have a spiritual partner we are able to encourage each other. Sometimes when we are walking the spiritual path alone, we will fall easily when encountering difficulties. As it says in Ecclesiastes (4:9-10, 12), “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up…..Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

The second thing is that we often pray and make our own requests to God, but sometimes things do not go according to our plan. We will begin to wonder whether the Lord has listened to our prayers, or question what we have done wrong, so that the Lord no longer listens to our prayers. In fact, the Lord has heard our prayers and the Lord has His wonderful arrangement because the Lord truly understands our needs. He will help us according to His will. Therefore, as Christians, we must always have faith in the Lord, as it tells us in 2 Corinthians (5:7), " For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Matthew (21:22), " And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive”.

Evergreen Fellowship Activity
Brother Yung So Fai (Tsuen Wan Church)

Hallelujah! In the name of the Lord Jesus I testify. Thank the Lord for His guidance, the Evergreen Fellowship, an annual event organised by the Hong Kong Coordination Board, was successfully held on the 1st May 2018 in Kowloon Church.

It was a very lively event as the number of attendees totalled 107 because it was a public holiday and Kowloon Church had coincidentally switched the Friday evening service to the morning, also many participants were elderly brethren from the UK who had returned for the special Ap Chau Church Thanksgiving Service.

This event was mainly for the elderly brethren and Evergreen Fellowship members from Hong Kong Church, Kowloon Church, Tai Po Church, Western District Church and Tsuen Wan Church. The purpose was to have fellowship and interact with one another. Since some churches do not have an Evergreen Fellowship, members from the Steadfast Fellowships were also invited.

Thank God! Preacher Li Jing Ming encouraged everyone through examples of fervent service by old believers in the Bible, as well as his own experiences of what he saw and heard from Taiwan. In addition, each local church offered hymns to praise God. From this we could see our church seniors are full of energy, abundant in spirit and the will to love God.

Although the fellowship was held inside the chapel, the atmosphere of the whole event was relaxed, full of laughter and joy. Finally, Kowloon Church organisers prepared a fellowship meal for everyone, so they could share conversation as they ate.

May our Lord Jesus continue to look after and bless our church seniors, and remember the hard work of the organizers of this event! Hallelujah! Amen!
