The Lord’s Boundless Grace

Sister Chu Yuan Chang (Kowloon Church)

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I testify:

God indeed took special care of me. On the morning of 1st May 2018, I felt unwell and went to the A&E. After 4 hours of surgery, I was diagnosed with a bacterial blood infection that had led to complications (sepsis) and organ failure. I was dangerously close to losing my life and needed an intracardiac injection to survive. However, the excessive dose caused swelling and bruising on my face and blisters on my hands and feet. The doctors said that if there were any cell damage in my foot they would need to amputate.

After being in a coma for 7 days, I woke up extremely afraid and could not believe I was still alive. I was worried about all kinds of problems and especially if I could be discharged for my baptism in October. While I was in the ICU, the doctor met with my family to explain my condition and treatment and I could see how well the Lord Jesus had looked after me. The doctors said I was extremely lucky because I had been in critical condition and needed surgery urgently. Thankfully, it was Labour Day on May 1st when they typically do not schedule any elective surgeries and they were able to operate on me immediately. I am truly grateful to the Lord as it was through His arrangement that I was able to be saved in time!

I am extremely grateful to the brethren, preachers, deacons, and my siblings for their care while I was in a critical condition. They not only visited me frequently, but also prayed for me, enabling me to recover in the grace of the Lord. I am also grateful to my family, my husband’s family, and my siblings for their loving care. I was surrounded by support and comforted mentally during my treatment as they visited often and I did not feel lonely. It was a great help to my condition! I need to thank my siblings again because at the request of my husband, they were willing to pray to the Lord Jesus and ask Him to save me. As they were not Christians, it was such great encouragement to have them pray for me.

Thinking back, it was truly God’s wonderful arrangement. Jesus sent an angel to me while I was in a critical condition - my daughter. She is a nurse and was working shifts but had just been transferred to regional clinics, working 9 to 5. Thank God, she was able to come to the hospital everyday to see to my needs! By the guidance of the Lord Jesus Christ, I recovered quickly, I did not require amputation, and I was swiftly discharged. But my feet had not fully recovered and I still needed to go to the hospital regularly to clean the wounds. Every visit, I would ask the foot therapist about my recovery and the reply always worried me. My baptism was quickly approaching and I had thought of many ways to keep my feet dry during baptism to avoid infection like wrapping them in clingfilm or plastic coverings etc. I prayed often hoping that Jesus would have mercy on me and allow my wounds to heal as quickly as possible. God’s grace is wonderful! Two weeks before my baptism, I went for a checkup and the foot therapist told me that the wounds on my feet had fully recovered and that I would not need to return to the hospital. I was so happy and so very grateful!

God had never left me. Through the grace of Jesus, I was able to experience deeply the Lord’s great love towards me. Thank the Lord, my husband and I are now baptised into the Lord! May all glory be unto our God in heaven, amen!
